2009 marks the 37 seasons for Randy Plummer to perform in Branson. The Plummer Family came to Branson in 1971 on a vacation with friends and fell in love area. A friend of the family, Harold Goad, who had played in the "Shepard of the Hills" play had left the play and moved to southeast MIssouri, and he was playing banjo for The Plummer Family Show. While they were on vacation in Branson, Harold got Randy, Randy's sister Melody and himself on The Baldknobbers and Presley's shows to make appearances. Randy and Melody were thrilled, and that was the beginning of a huge love for the Branson Ozarks and a love to perform there.
Randy was still in high school when The Plummer Family bought the theatre (1972), and he graduated in 1974. Randy got to meet many of the other Ozark entertainers and Branson entertainment pioneers like Jack & Sherry Herschend, Mary Herschend and Pete & JoDee Herschend, all owners of Silver Dollar City. Randy also met Donna Douglas (Ellie Mae of the Beverly HIllbillies), who had a limited engagement next door to the Plummers Theatre singing in a tent. The Beverly Hillbillies had filmed some of their program from Silver Dollar City. Randy later played in a band for Buddy Ebsen (Jed from the Beverly Hillbillies) at the Roy Clark Theatre. To this day, Buddy is one of Randy's favorite entertainers. The Baldknobbers and The Presley's shows were on each side of the Plummer Family Country Music Show's 572 seat theatre. The Foggy River Boys came over to Branson from Kimberling City in 1974. The Plummers felt the Lord plopped them down in a perfect location for their theatre.
Randy performed for 18 years (1973-1990) with his parents, Darrell & Rosie Plummer at the theatre that was family owned and ran. Randy was a singer, bass player, brochure distributor and janitor during those 18 years. In 1990 Randy's Dad and Mom decided to sell the threatre and retire, while Randy stayed in Branson and went to work at the Roy Clark Theatre with Roy's warm-up band called "Celebrity Sound". Randy was there for three years (1991-1993).
In 2002 Randy will be starting his 5th Season performing at special events held at Silver Dollar City with Shirley Johnson's group called " Shirley, Goodndess & Mercy" , where he will be singing and playing Doghouse (stand-up) Bass. Randy also sings and plays bass with The Bacon Family every Sunday at the 76 Music Hall for "The Sunday Gospel Jubilee" at 2pm and for "The Ozark Mountain Jubilee" at 7pm.
Some of Randy's hobbies are songwriting and collecting Disney things. Randy is a major Mickey Mouse lover, and has worked for the Walt Disney Company at their stores for over 6 years. He is currently working at the Disney Catalog Outlet located at the Tanger Mall in Branson. One of Randy's dreams, besides singing and playing bass in Branson, is to do the voice of Mickey Mouse for the Disney Company.
Randy has a deep love for Branson, and hopes that he will be there for a long time. His love for the Ozarks came through when the wrote a poem while down on the Lake Taneycomo lakefront one night called "An Ozark Prayer". in 1999. He recorded it on his 2000 album, "Once Upon A Time". He keeps singing, playing bass and writing Gospel and Country Music, and hopes to continue recording original music. Randy just signed with Bill & Gloria Gaither's Copyright Management Company and with D.K. & Sherrie Brewster and their company Yet To Come Publishing. Randy is currently having some of his songs recorded by a quartet and hopes to get more and more songs out to the public to enjoy.
Randy wants to invite you to come to Branson and to stay as long as you can, and learn about Branson and its history and love its land God gave. And by the way, if you go to one of Randy's shows, or see him working at the Disney Catalog Outlet at Tanger Mall, go up and talk with him. He loves to talk with his friends and make new ones.
